| ATLAS 6" LATHE MOUNTING INSTRUCTIONS |
| MOUNTING THE LATHE Place lathe on bench in approximately the position shown in Figure 2. The bench top should be at least 20 by 34 inches. The front edges of the legs should be about 3/4" from the front of the bench top. Mark the positions of the four holes in the lathe legs and drill holes to accommodate either lag screws or bolts as desired. Next, bolt the lathe to the bench top and level the bed by carefully following the instructions in the bulletin on "Leveling the Lathe Bed." This is a most important step and should not be slighted. |

| MOUNTING THE
COUNTERSHAFT The four holes for the countershaft bracket may now be located and drilled by following the dimensions in Figure 2. With the countershaft belt tension screws (see Figure 1) in about the midway position place the spindle belt on the smallest step of the countershaft pulley and the largest step of the spindle pulley. Bolt the countershaft bracket lightly to the bench. Put the rocker lever in the tension position, that is, so that the belt tension screws (see Figure 1) rest on the smaller of the two flat spots on the rocker shaft. Now move the countershaft bracket on its slotted holes so that the countershaft spindle is parallel with the lathe spindle. Move the bracket away from the lathe until the belt is tight and tighten the four mounting bolts. With the belt tension screws, adjust the belt so that with a moderate amount of pressure the belt can be depressed about 1" in the center. Lock this adjustment by tightening the lock nuts on the belt tension screws. |

| MOUNTING THE MOTOR Before mounting the motor make all electrical connections. Then slide the pulley on the motor shaft so that the small step is toward the motor. Place motor in position shown in Fig. 1 with belt on small step of motor pulley and on large step of countershaft pulley. Be sure rocker shaft is still in tension position and pull motor as close to countershaft bracket as belt will allow, line up belt and bolt motor to bench. Re-check tension and alignment of both belts and then tighten all mounting screws or bolts securely. |
