INSTRUCTIONS FOR LEVELING A CONCAVE OR CONVEX LATHE BED
After mounting and bolting the lathe to a level bench or stand according to instructions, if it’s found that the lathe bed is bowed, it can be straightened as follows.
If lathe bed is CONCAVE

If lathe bed is CONVEX

If lathe bed is CONCAVE

Place a thin metal shim under the inner ends of the lathe legs, both front and rear (see Figure 1). Check with a straight edge placed on top of the bed ways (see Figure 1), adding shims and tightening bolts until bed is straight.

If lathe bed is CONVEX

Place thin metal shims under the outer ends of the lathe legs, both front and rear (see Figure 2). Check with a straight edge placed on top of the bed ways (see Figure 2), adding shims and tightening bolts until bed is straight.
